Juneteenth Day:

Austin SHRM would like to celebrate this day, which marks the end of slavery in 1865 and honors African-American freedom. Juneteenth Day, also known as Freedom Day, is an American Federal Holiday celebrated on June 19.

And some celebratory traditions often include public readings of the Emancipation Proclamation, singing traditional songs such as “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” and “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” and reading works by noted African-American writers, such as Ralph Ellison, Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, and Toni Morrison to name a few artists.

Here are some items of interest:

Publications:

1.     Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

2.     Native Son by James Baldwin

3.     I Shall Not Be Moved by Maya Angelou

4.     Beloved by Toni Morrison

Upcoming Events:

1.    Austin Juneteenth Parade

2.   Central TX Juneteenth Parade
