AUSTIN SHRM HISTORY

Austin SHRM has been an active chapter since the 1950's. Below are relevant details on the history, development, and achievements of our chapter into what it is today.

1950's History

AHRMA (now Austin SHRM) began as the Austin Personnel Association (APA).
Membership consisted of 14 men and 1 woman.
Dues were $15 a year.
The luncheon cost 85 cents.

1960's History

The first Executive Director of the American Society for Personnel Administration (ASPA) was hired.
The first automated wage and salary survey was conducted in 1965.
The APA had its first sponsored seminar in 1969.
The APA had its first woman president in 1969.

1970’s History

The APA became affiliated with ASPA in 1976.
The APA earned its first Merit Award in 1979.

1980’s History

The APA had its first Annual Conference.
The ASPA became the Society for Human Resource Management.

1990’s History

The APA became the Austin Human Resource Management Association (AHRMA) in 1990.
The Karl Zimmerman Scholarship was established in 1994.
Certification classes began in 1996.

2000’s History

The AHRMA website was started in 2000.
2005 marked the 50th Anniversary of Austin SHRM.
In 2007, AHRMA got a facelift with new branding and an updated website.
The Stepping Stones to Enhanced Leadership Program began in 2008.
First time recipient of the prestigious SHRM Pinnacle Award for the Stepping Stones to Enhanced Leadership Program in 2009.

2010’s History

In November 2013-2014 SHRM and the SHRM Foundation
recognized Austin SHRM for being the highest contributing
SHRM affiliated chapter during the SHRM Leadership Conference
in National Harbor, MD.
The 65^th Anniversary of AHRMA was celebrated in 2015.

2020’s History

2020 marked the 70^th Anniversary of AHRMA.
AHRMA added DBA: Austin SHRM in 2021
