Stepping Stones to Enhanced Leadership, was established in 2008 as a tool for developing AHRMA leaders and as a reward to our volunteers and their employers for the hours of service they dedicate to the human resource profession.

The program includes a Cohort styled program with nine, 4-hour modules, which are pre-certified for HRCI/SHRM credit. This is a creative and innovative program designed, developed, and implemented to meet the professional development needs of today’s HR professionals.

Students of the program include AHRMA members and non-members designed to provide opportunities for recertification credit, create a pipeline of emerging leaders for AHRMA’s Board of Directors, and to meet employers needs for improvement of employee engagement, retention, and professional development

Tuition/Fees:

Programs similar to AHRMA's SHRM Pinnacle Award winning leadership development course cost approximately $4,500/person; however, AHRMA members are offered the course at the discounted rate of $350. Non-AHRMA participants may participate in the program for a fee of $400 per person, payable no later than February 9, 2018.

 APPLICATION FEE:  There is a one-time, non-refundable application fee of $75, which must be submitted along with the completed application (found below). This must be done by "registering" for the event for your application to be accepted.

Mentoring Program

AHRMA launched its Mentoring program, “Just-In-Time Mentoring” in March of 2015. This program has changed the face of mentoring by providing Mentors with the opportunity to give back and share their expertise with the next generation of HR leaders.

Benefits of the Program:

Mentors will gain experience in coaching and professional development; a real opportunity to develop new HR leaders. Mentees can learn from Senior HR professionals to enhance their professional skillset.

This is another FREE program only for AHRMA members!

Just-in-Time-Mentoring is unique because it is customized to the needs of the individuals. The parameters of the mentoring partnership are established by the mentor/mentee team - each team decides how often they would like to meet and what their time will be focused on. Some meetings are by phone and some are by face-to-face.

Program Details:

The program is separated into 2 phases per year, Fall and Spring, with each phase lasting 4 months. The topics exchanged will motive, educate, navigate, and transfer experience - all designed for getting results!

Just-In-Time-Mentoring IS: the chance to partner with other HR professionals, focused around growing and developing specific HR related skills.

This program is NOT: a free consultant service, a job search service, or an ongoing dependent relationship.

Program Requirement:

To participate in the program, you must:

  • Be a current AHRMA member and maintain membership for the duration of the Phase;
  • Plan to remain actively involved in a Human Resources capacity for the entire duration of the Phase;
  • Commit to at least 4 meetings/calls with your partner.

Karl B. Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship

Karl Zimmerman played an active role in helping advance the Human Resources profession in Austin, Texas.  He graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in 1971.   In 1977, he moved to Austin, and was elected President of Austin Personnel Association, which later became Austin Human Resource Management Association (AHRMA).  During his tenure as President, he advocated for the funding of scholarships for students seeking careers in human resources.  The Executive Committee voted to fund two scholarships for students studying human resources in 1992.   In 1994, the same committee voted to name the scholarships the “Karl B. Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship” in memory of Karl, and as a tribute to his dedication to the field of human resources, and his efforts to develop future human resources leaders.

AHRMA marked the 25th scholarship anniversary in 2017.  Over the years, thousands of scholarship dollars have been awarded to students who have demonstrated academic excellence, and an interest in selecting a career in the human resource arena.

Scholarship applications are now open to Central Texas undergraduate and graduate students pursing a degree in human resources or related business degree.
