Texas SHRM - Personal Experiences of Race in Society and the Workplace, Part 2

  • Thu, September 03, 2020
  • 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
  • Virtual

We have decided to continue talking about this important topic by hosting
"Part 2" of this conversation.

The nationwide protests following the death of George Floyd have led many business leaders to reconsider their organizations' approach to diversity and inclusion.

Too often, D&I programs have been primarily educational seminars with little practical effect on even well-intentioned leaders' business practices.

Might this lack of impact be due to those programs' lack of personal, empathetic conversations between those of differing backgrounds?

In this one-hour discussion, three HR leaders will share their experiences as people of color, both in society at large and in the workplace, with a white HR professional seeking to understand.

They will share insight from their unique perspectives into:

  • Disparate impact,
  • Systemic racism,
  • The prospect of "color-blind workplaces,"
  • The challenges of creating a meritocratic environment,
  • Corporate pronouncements of solidarity with social movements and their employees of color, and
  • Where business leaders should focus their energy and attention to maximize continued progress.

This session will be recorded and a message will be sent to all registrants with details on how to view the recording after the completion of the event.
